One of the most compelling and versatile filmmakers working in Canada today, Madison Thomas is a storyteller of mixed ancestry (Ojibwe/Saulteux & Russian/Ukrainian settler), and is based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba in Treaty 1 territory. Credits include her 2018 debut feature film, Ruthless Souls, numerous award-winning short films, four seasons on the award-winning television series, Taken, directing episodes of Pretty Hard Cases, Heartland, and co-writing and directing on season 4 of Burden of Truth. Thomas is currently in post production with her second feature film, the post apocalyptic drama “Finality of Dusk”. She co-wrote the film with Deaf filmmaker Katarina Ziervogel. Thomas also co-wrote and directed the feature length CRAVE documentary Buffy Sainte Marie: Carry It On, and recently won the DGC Allan King award for best documentary for the film as well as a special mention in the 2022 TIFF Amplify Best Feature From an Emerging BIPOC Filmmaker award category. Thomas is a committed youth mentor who has taught filmmaking and leadership skills to youth with various organizations and programs both in Winnipeg and internationally since 2013.
